The first slot is occupied by Haryana where internet users enjoy an average speed of 1271 Kbps. Kerala is in the third place at 1086 Kbps. India, however, is globally ranked 107th for average connections speed, at 895 Kbps. Karnataka had the highest number of connections above 5 Mbps (5%).

This was revealed in the quarterly state of the internet report prepared by Akamai Technologies. Akamai’s quarterly report provides insights into key internet statistics such as origin of attack traffic, network outages and broadband connectivity levels across the globe.

Globally, the average connection speeds saw a decline on a quarter-over-quarter basis, while year-over-year data pointed to an overall increase in connection speeds. The average connection speed was 1.5 Mbps and South Korea maintained the highest average connection speed at 11.3 Mbps. The survey also observed that attack traffic originated from 201 unique countries, up from 68 in the first quarter.

The United States (14.63%) and China (31.35%) continued to be the two largest sources of attack traffic, accounting for nearly 45 per cent of observed attack traffic in total followed by South Korea with 6.83 per cent and India at 3.93 per cent.

India ranked 20th globally for number of unique IP addresses seen by Akamai, with over 3 million IPs. Delhi and Maharashtra topped the list of Indian states with over 1 million unique IPs each. Karnataka ranked fourth with 173,945 IP addresses which was a year on year increase of 25 per cent.
