Acclaimed athlete Milkha Singh, fondly referred as the Flying Sikh, has been booked by the Chandigarh police, along with two others on charges of intimidation and causing hurt following a brawl at the prestigious golf club in the city.

Milkha Singh’s son, Jeev Milkha, is a renowned international golfer.  No arrest have been made so far. A film on Milkha’s life as an athlete is nearly ready for release and will feature celebrity Farhan Akhtar.

Punjab Congress MLA Randeep Nabha and retired Lt Col Vijay Singh Sandhu were also booked in the cross cases under various sections.

The police action follows a scuffle while playing golf that turned ugly on Saturday. Milkha, who on Monday termed the incident unfortunate, wondered why his name figured in the case. He said he only tried to intervene and sort out things. For several decades, the 78-year old turbaned Sikh held the record as the only Indian male athlete to win an Individual athletics Gold in Commonwealth Games.

According to Milkha’s version, Lt Col Sandhu had asked Randeep for a pass to move ahead when they were playing. “Randeep and I told him to allow the game to finish before moving ahead.

The officer removed our tee, placed his and took a shot. Randeep then placed back his tee and told the Colonel to get aside as he may get hurt.

Sandhu then pushed him and hit him with a golf club. This led to a scuffle,” Milkha said.
Sandhu got hit near his eye in the fight. Two separate cases have been registered. Milkha maintained that he only intervened to calm down tempers.

“His allegations against me are totally baseless. He tarnished a gentleman's game like golf,” he said.
