Malaysian juniors trounce MEG 'B'

Hockey Super Division League

Faiz Helmi’s brace spurred a relentless Malaysian junior team to their third consecutive victory blanking MEG ‘B’ 4-0 in a Pool ‘B’ match of the Ozonegroup KSHA Super Division league  (first phase) at the KSHA stadium on Tuesday.

Helmi’s goals came in the 27th and 49th minutes of the match while Rashid Baharom (32nd) and Redzhwan Jaffar (66th) chipped in with a goal apiece.

The visitors have nine points from three matches while MEG ‘B’ with three from as many matches face an early elimination from the league.

The Malaysians for the first time in the league were tied down by the gritty Sappers with goalkeeper Sathish foiling two penalty corners in five minutes.

MEG ‘B’ had a chance in the 13th minute when Ganesh Kumar gave Milan a short pass inside the D but the latter’s shot was wide off the mark.

In the 25th minute, Sathish saved Fitri Saari’s penalty stroke that was awarded after the Sappers committed a foul following a penalty corner. But the Malaysians were a second time lucky, when in the 27th minute Helmi placed the ball correctly off another stroke.
Baharom doubled the lead in the 32nd minute when he scored off a counter-attack after MEG ‘B’ wasted their first penalty corner.

Helmi produced a bullet-like shot after a run in from the left to seal the third goal in the 49th minute. MEG ‘B’ made all the efforts to come back into the game but the inability to convert penalty corners, three in the second half, was their undoing.

In the 66th minute, Jaffar did a simple push-in off a Baharom cross to score the fourth goal.
