State transport bus services to Karnataka from the city, Coimbatore and Tirupur were stopped from today apprehending trouble there over notification of the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

The step to stop running 22 buses to Chamrajnagar, Mysore, Mandaya and Bangalore was taken to avoid any untoward incident, transport corporation sources said.

Some private buses from Sathyamangalam to Chamrajnagar, however, operated buses as also vans and taxis.

Police pickets have been posted at Karaipallam village on the Tamilnadu-Karnataka border.

The Centre yesterday notifed the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, ending a six-year-long wait with Tamil Nadu celebrating the development even as protests broke out in some parts of Karnataka.
