Brushstrokes show traffic manners

To aware people, especially children, about road safety and obey traffic rules, Delhi traffic police organised a on-the-spot drawing competition on the occasion of Delhi Police Week, 2013 on Thursday at India Gate.

The event was organised at the Princess Place in association with Society for Indian Automobiles Manufacturers, Hero MotoCorp and J K Tyres among others.

Neeraj Kumar, Delhi commissioner of police stressed upon the needs to obey traffic rules, use of zebra crossings, subways and foot overbridges to reduce accidents. He also appreciated the road safety team for their active participation in imparting road safety education to schoolchildren.

Cricketer Gautam Gambhir mainly focussed on the need to obey traffic rules and told children the need to wear a helmet and a seat belt while driving.

‘Best Rolling Trophy’ along with cash prize of Rs 15,000 for best activities in the field during 2012 was awarded to Dev Samaj Middle School, Nehru Nagar in Lajpat Nagar.
‘Club Rolling Trophy’ for best activities during 2012 was awarded to Tinu Public School in Sangam Vihar.

A jury comprising faculty of Delhi College of Art and Department of Art, Jamia Milia Islamia judged the paintings of about 600 participants from 25 leading schools.

In the primary category at the competition, Kanika Bansal of Universal Public School, Patparganj outstood other competitors. Another UPS girl  Pratibha Yadav was also declared winner in the middle category. In the secondary category, Nangloi Govement Boys Senior Secondary School’s Rahul Kumar came first.

Sudhir Yadav, special commissioner of police (traffic) was also present on the occasion.
