Tucked inside the crowded 1st Main Road of J C Nagar, ‘Retreat Restaurant’ caters to different tastes and could be the best stop for you. From vegetarian to non-vegetarian, the options are many at this otherwise small-looking restaurant.

“The restaurant was started by me and a friend when we were just out of college. There were not many eateries around here. There was a hotel which had closed down at this spot. So we just took up the place and started our own,” says Zaheer, the owner of the place.

With seating facilities for about 20 people, this restaurant has a unique feature —- an open kitchen. Zaheer says, “You can’t miss the kitchen. Once you enter the place, you can see your order being made and served. We’ve purposefully done this so that our customers know that we use the best ingredients, and prepare food in the neatest manner.”

In the different sections of the menu, there are dishes that will make you mouth water. From starters like ‘crispy vegetables’ and ‘golden fried baby corn’ for the staunch vegetarian to the ‘pepper chicken’ and ‘chicken lollypop’ for the non-vegetarians, the options are many.

‘Hot ‘n’ Sour’ soups and different rolls like the ‘Nizam roll’ are items to check out. There are a number of breads like the traditional Kerala parotta, phulka (stuffed and plain), kulcha and naan.

There are a variety of curries to go along with that, in all flavours, like shahi paneer, channa masala, paneer butter masala and mushroom kalimirchi for the vegetarians and mutton kurma, chicken du-piaza, methi chicken and mutton rogan josh for the non-vegetarians. The place is quite a culinary delight.

“We’re always open to changing the dishes according to the customer’s demands. Some people don’t like a lot of oil in the food, others prefer less salt, and
we make those changes,” vouches Zaheer. This eatery sees more youngsters and professionals than families.

This is because parking might be an issue on this street. The place is always bustling with activity towards evening. Neeraj V, a college student and a regular, says, “The biryanis here are to die for. Also, the variety of meat curries are just amazing.”  For details, call 8762666669.
