The formula for a perfect evening

There are few things more pleasant than an evening of laughter and gourmet food. Thinking on the same lines, Dramanon recently staged ‘Comic Tonic Return’ at the Lalit Ashok recently. It was followed by supper.

The show started with two short plays, which were received by the crowd with much enthusiasm.

    ‘Absolution’, a comic piece, was about how a well-behaved student is desperate to experience the thrill of doing something wrong.

    On the other hand is a priest, who reads murder stories and wants to be a detective; he ultimately helps this young boy feel better.

   Next came ‘Smell’, a funny piece about two friends who are married into each other’s communities. They discuss the difficulties they face and how the smell of each other’s cuisines causes marital discord.

‘Sure Thing’, the third piece, was a romantic comedy.     It was set in a coffee shop, where a man and woman meet for a blind date. They have the perfect addition for a great relationship — a restart button.

     This was followed by ‘Surgery’, which was about how a dentist pulls out a tooth for the first time. The actors made the production more involving by running around in the audience.

Those who attended the evening were also treated to some tasty food. The menu for the day included starters like coconut-crusted fish nuggets with mustard mayonnaise, murgh scarmoza tikka with mint chutney, shrimp dragon roll, Cajun-spiced vegetable nuggets and corn and asparagus vol-au-vent.

  The main course included matke mein biryani, dim sum, parde ki subz biryani, dal baluchi, ulta tawa paratha and roesti with corn.

Commenting about this new concept, Beulah, a teacher and guest at the event, says, “This was a great experience. When it’s just theatre or a performance, it tends to get boring. But since we were relaxed, we enjoyed it thoroughly.”
