Constable commits suicide

Four persons kill themselves over 24 hours in city

 Depressed over his deteriorating health, a 50-year-old Delhi Police head constable hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his house at south-west Delhi’s Baba Haridas Nagar. Three other cases of suicide, including one at AIIMS, were reported in the last 24 hours, police said on Tuesday.

Head constable Vedpal was posted with police control room. Police learnt about the incident after family members found him hanging in his bedroom around 10 pm.
“We received a call from Vedpal’s family members. We rushed him to Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” said a police officer.
Police did not find any suicide note, but Vedpal’s family told police that he was under depression due to his poor health.

He had was suffering problems for the last 10 years.
“For the last few days, he was not coming to office due to a health problem,” said the officer. The body has been handed over to his family after a post-mortem.

Engineer found dead

An engineer was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his house in central Delhi’s West Patel Nagar on Monday night. Police suspected that he committed suicide by consuming sleeping pills. But no suicide note was found.
The incident came to light after neighbours complained that a foul smell was coming from the engineer’s room which was locked from inside and the lights were switched off.

His neighbours and the landlord informed police.
“We broke open the door and found him lying dead in a bed,” said a police officer.
Sushil, 30, hailed from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh and was working in an IT company. He had been staying at West Patel Nagar in rented accommodation for the last three years.

Police took the body for a post-mortem and informed his family.
“We suspect that Sushil had consumed poison but we are waiting for the post-mortem report,” said the officer.

Woman jumps to death

A 55-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of a residential building at north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar on Monday.
Deepa lived alone and was said to be mentally unstable.

Police said she died on the spot. After a post-mortem, police have handed over the body to her family.
An investigation is on.
