Tenders for Metro phase II shortly

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director N Sivasailam, on Wednesday. said the corporation has begun preparation of tender documents to launch the construction of Namma Metro phase II.   

Speaking on the sidelines of Namma Metro site inspection, he said the Centre’s approval for Phase II was in final stages. “We are preparing tender documents so that the project implementation can be started. Phase II would begin with extension of East-West Corridor on both ends, i.e. from Mysore Road to Kengeri and Baiyappanahalli to ITPL-Whitefield,” he said.

The ITPL-Whitefield line costing Rs 4,845 crore, would connect Jyothipuram, K R Puram, Narayanapura, Mahadevapura, Garudacharyapalya, Doddanakundi, Visveswaraya Industrial Estate, Kundalahalli, Vaidehi Hospital, Satya Sai Medical Institute, ITPL, Kadugodi, Ujwala Vidyalaya and Whitefield.

Extension of Mysore Road terminal at Nayandahalli to Kengeri connecting Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bangalore University Cross and R V College of Engineering is estimated to cost Rs 1,867 crore.
Metro phase II, in total, includes four extension lines (including above two) and two new lines with a total length of 72 km with an estimated cost of Rs 26,405 crore.

Phase II is expected to be completed by 2017-18. Once both phases are complete, they would provide connectivity from Majestic to Whitefield in the east, Kengeri in the west, BIEC along Tumkur Road in the north and Anjanapura Township in the south. Also, two new lanes under phase II from Jayanagar to Electronic City and Nagavara to Gottigere are expected.
