'We'd love to do more films together'

Happy Couple

While most actresses wait for a really long time before they tie the knot, Genelia D’Souza followed her heart and married her longtime boyfriend and actor Riteish Deshmukh. It’s been nearly a year and the couple is able to turn heads when they walk into a room.

In the City recently to attend the finals of Celebrity Cricket League, the duo chatted with Metrolife. Not only do they own a cricket team together now (Veer Marathis), but are also a happy-go-lucky couple. And though their team didn’t make it to the finals, they were quite enthusiastic and were seen teasing one another with some tongue-in-cheek humour.

Owning a team was a dream for Riteish, says Genelia and adds, “It’s been great to be a part of the CCL as team owners. More than anything, it has been fun, especially, since it’s something very close to Riteish’s heart.”

They took their defeat to ‘Telugu Warriors’ in the semi-finals sportingly. “The fact that we made it to the semi-finals in our very first season itself was a big achievement for us,” says Riteish. But at the same time, they say that it was hard to disconnect themselves from the ‘Mumbai Heroes’ team, which they were a part of in the last two seasons. “When we decided to start our own team, it was hard as I was a part of ‘Mumbai Heroes’. But Marathi being my mother tongue, I wanted to add this industry to ‘CCL’ as well,” explains Riteish.

So was it difficult for Genelia, who has been a part of the Southern industry, to divide her cheers? “What divide?” quips Riteish, and adds, “Husband always comes first.” To which Genelia smiles and nods, “Yes, husband comes first for me.”

Marriage is something very sacred and personal for the duo. Genelia says, “Marriage is the best thing that has happened to me. You come to realise how your priorities change.” At the same time, Genelia was not worried about not getting many offers after marriage.

Genelia feels that the trend of married actors being ignored in Bollywood is now changing. “It was there for a long time but now I think actors, who are married, seem to have more successful careers. It’s changing but gradually,” she says.

After Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, one hasn’t seen the couple together on screen. “We haven’t got the right kind of scripts. We would love to do more films together but it has to have a good story,” she signs off.
