Creative spirit at its best

The students of St Anne’s First Grade College for Women recently put together a grand fest on campus — ‘Epoch 2013’, which was the perfect opportunity for the students to take a break from their stressful schedules and have a bit of fun.

The tag-line for the fest was ‘unleash your spirit’ and this is exactly what the participants did — they put their best foot forward in each of the events, trying to prove their mettle among their peers.

Syeda, one of the students of the college, explains that this fest was hosted after a gap of three or four years, which is why the students were still picking up the knack of organising an event on such a large scale.

“We’ve already figured out ways in which we can improve the fest next year. We plan to invite more colleges, create more awareness about the fest and possibly, stretch it to two days and let the events go on till later in the evening,” she says.

The organising team of the college put together a host of fun-filled events as part of the day-long affair. One of the most popular competitions at any campus occasion is dance and keeping this in mind, a bunch of dance-related events were planned.

There was a solo dance competition based on hit Bollywood numbers, as well as a group dance competition which included more contemporary forms.

In addition to this, there was a duet dance event as well as a group dance that fell in the western category — which was won by the home team.

The participants had a great time on stage — the pieces were obviously well-planned and rehearsed and a large crowd gathered to get a glimpse of the different teams performing. Students who had a penchant for singing could take part in the group-singing competition as well.

Syeda explains that the dance-related events were particularly fun.

“The people who came and danced on stage were great. It was obvious that they had rehearsed well,” she smiles.

The creatively-inclined participants were spoilt for choice, since there were a variety of off-stage events.

These included the collage-making competition, as well as face and pot-painting. There was also a cartooning event, which witnessed some witty creations.

In addition to this, there were events like essay writing in Hindi and Kannada, debate in Kannada and English, creative writing in English and the ever-popular dumb charades.

Some of the colleges which participated in the fest included Kristu Jayanti College, IIBM and MS Ramaiah Group of Institutions, apart from the home team.

Eventually, Kristu Jayanti College won the overall trophy.
