A 39-year-old man, impersonating as doctor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, was arrested from Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh for molestation and forgery, police said.

Identified as R K Gupta, the accused is a resident of Vaishali in Ghaziabad. He allegedly impersonated as an MBBS/MS doctor in AIIMS and cheated many people, including foreign tourists suffering from chronic diseases like cancer, on the pretext of facilitating top class treatments in the best hospitals in Delhi.

He was arrested on Sunday on the complaint of a woman at Lajpat Nagar police station in south Delhi.

The woman alleged that after due procedure, she was selected for the post of executive assistant in Hobstic Health Care Pvt Ltd, on February 22 this year on a monthly salary of Rs. 45,000.

On February 24, Gupta took her to Jaipur along with other office staff in the name of some office related work where he allegedly tried to force himself on her. She resented his move and rushed back alone to Delhi by flight and lodged a complaint with police. A case under section 354 (molestation) was registered against the accused.

During investigation, police found that Gupta was involved in many other fraudulent activities

He had lured customers in the name of investing money in a Rs 2,200 crore project for purchasing land to construct Mega Health Centre in Jaipur through his fake NGO named Holistic Health Care Pvt Ltd. All the while he claimed to be a very senior retired doctor of AIIMS.

After registration of the case, police found that Gupta had been absconding and had escaped to the UAE.

On Sunday, police received information that Gupta was lodged in Dasna Jail in Greater Noida with ten other people for disturbing tranquillity.

Police laid a trap and arrested him after it came to knowledge that he was released from prison.

During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to having duped as many as 20 farmers in Jaipur by giving them cheques worth Rs 19 crores for acquiring their land for setting up his Mega Health Centre. However, the cheques bounced and it was revealed that Gupta had only Rs 57 in his bank account.

He also told police that he graduated in science from Meerut University and thereafter did a three years physiotherapy diploma from AIIMS.
