MLA demands CBI probe into death at police station

Last Updated 21 March 2013, 19:59 IST

In an unusual gesture, a former minister of state government and an independent MLA, Golma Devi sat on a dharna outside the Assembly demanding CBI probe into the death of a complainant at Halena police station in Bharatpur district on March 12 night.

Kishore Jogi had filed a complaint at Halena police station on March 9 about his tractor’s theft.

On March 12 evening, he went to the police station to inquire into the complaint and did not return. However, he was found hanging inside the police station.

Police say that Kishore stayed at the police station on his own, saying it was too late to go to his home and he was expecting some information about the theft of his tractor. Police allowed him to stay but was found hanging in the police station at around 3 am.

His family members alleged that he was called at the police station, tortured and hanged by the goons of Dausa Zilla Pramukh Ajit Singh, in connivance with police officials, who had illegally occupied his land and stolen his tractor.

But police say there is nothing to prove the allegations.

Kishore Jogi’s body is lying at RBM Hospital in Bharatpur even nine days after his death as his kin refused to give permission to conduct  the post-mortem.

Golma Devi demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI as the relatives have no faith in the state police. She wanted adequate compensation for the victim’s family including a job to a family member.

Khir Singh, a deputy superintendent of police, who is investigating the case said he could not carry out the investigation as the post-mortem is being held up.

The issue of Kishore’s death was raised in the Assembly too by a CPM legislator Amraram.
