Election code squads provided wireless sets

Deputy Commissioner D S Vishwanath has directed the election officials to ensure strict compliance with model code of conduct during the run up to Assembly elections.

Speaking at a meeting at his office on Thursday, the deputy commissioner said vigilance squads will be constituted at the taluk levels to ensure adherence to the code of conduct. He said ten wireless sets will be provided to the teams to facilitate rapid exchange of information. Control rooms will be set up at the district and state levels to receive complaints on electoral malpractices.

The DC directed the Excise Department to set up 10 checkposts on the borders of the district and submit daily reports on transportation of liquor. “The respective taluk returning officers should prepare a list of sensitive and hypersensitive polling booths submit it to the district administration. The need for additional polling booths too should mentioned.”

The deputy commissioner, who also happens to be the district election officer, directed the returning officers to visit polling booths and ensure proper arrangements for voting. School buildings should be taken over for election process. The executive officers of the Taluk Panchayats were directed to remove any posters and flexes installed by the government. ‘Digital route map’ of all the polling stations should be prepared at the earliest.
