5 cops suspended

N Harsha, Inspector, Adugodi Traffic Police Station and former in-charge of Chikjala Police Station, has been charged with illegally confiscating a bike of one Simon Joseph near Vijayapur Bus Stand and not handing it over to him. He is also accused of demanding Rs 20,000 for releasing the vehicle and giving false explanations to higher officials about the vehicle during their inspection.

Sub Inspector Siddarangaswamy, Assistant Sub Inspector Rangaswamaiah, constables Venkatesh and Suresh, all attached with Chikjala Police Station, have been charged with abetting N Harsha in illegally detaining the rightful owner of the confiscated bike and two others, and threatening them of booking false cases against them.

Failure to look into whether some accused in a cheating case were involved in cases coming under other police stations, not mentioning the time in a ‘panchnama’ at a crime spot, preparing the panchnama at the station in a recent case without visiting the spot are the other charges.All the suspended policemen will be entitled to allowance during suspension.
