The Rajdhani which left here for New Delhi on Wednesday morning was heavily guarded with personnel from special protection force of the Railways in almost all the compartments of the prestigious train. They are armed with automatic and semi-automatic rifles to protect the passengers .

According to sources in the East Coast Railways, provisions have also been made for a pilot engine to escort the express train when it passes through the naxal infested areas of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar.

This step is being taken to save the premier train from any kind of sabotage activity including land mine blast on the tracks. However, despite all these steps, the passengers who boarded the Rajdhani here on Wednesday morning were apprehensive about their safety.

“Tuesday’s incident has definitely shaken us. An incident of this type was not expected in a prestigious train like the Rajdhani. The government and the railway authorities should initiate more steps for the safety and security of the passengers of this train. After all one pays more to travel in a Rajdhani”, said a passenger.

The passengers had already expressed their anger over the late arrival of security forces at the spot of the incident.
