A Delhi Police officer and his girlfriend were found dead with gunshot injuries in a house in Gurgaon on Saturday.

Police suspect one of them killed the other and committed suicide. The victims have been identified as Badrish Dutt, 45, and Geeta Sharma, 45, who worked as a private detective. Badrish was posted as an inspector in Delhi Police’s special cell.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning when Dutt’s colleagues tried contacting him on his mobile phones but to no avail. “They repeatedly tried his numbers, but failed to get through as both the numbers were switched off,” a police officer said.

Special cell officers immediately went to Geeta’s house in Ardee City in Gurgaon Sector 52.

Foul play

They, however, found the house locked from inside and suspected foul play.
“They informed the top bosses of special cell and local police, following which they broke the door of Geeta’s house in presence of Gurgaon police,” the officer added.
On entering the house, Badrish and Geeta were found dead in a pool of blood between the kitchen and drawing room.

Badrish’s body was found lying on the sofa with a gunshot wound to his left temple while Geeta’s body was found on the floor with gunshot on her right temple.
Initiating the attack

Prima facie, it is suspected that Geeta shot Badrish with his service revolver and then committed suicide.

“Gunshot wounds on Badrish’s left temple and Geeta’s right temple indicate that Geeta may have initiated the attack, but the sequence of events are yet to be ascertained,” the police officer said.

Badrish was separated from his family and believed to be in a relationship with Geeta, who was recently arrested in connection with a forgery case and released on bail after spending about three weeks behind bars.

Badrish, who joined Delhi Police in 1991, was one of the few personnel who were inducted into the special cell in 1994, when the elite force was formed. Delhi Police sources said a crime branch team had arrested Geeta in March on allegations that she forged Union home ministry letters.

Geeta Sharma had then spent 20 days in jail during which Badrish apparently did not visit her. After her arrest, differences emerged between them, police sources said.
