'MOM Express' to help women fight breast cancer

Poornasudha Cancer Foundation, together with Rotary Bangalore west, has launched the ‘MOM Express’ (Mobile on-site Mammography), in the State, to make breast cancer detection more accessible.

The MOM Express is a mobile unit equipped with traditional Mammographic equipment.
Addressing  reporters in the City on Thursday, Poorna Sudhindra, the founding member of the Foundation, said: “With the mobile unit, we intend to break down all barriers, helping to make mammograms more accessible. The MOM Express will be a significant move towards early detection and will encourage women in Karnataka to obtain timely treatment for breast cancer. We hope to increase awareness.”

She added that the people would be charged nominal fees for the diagnosis and that it will be free of cost for people living the below poverty line. The equipment has been sponsored by the Rotary Club (Bangalore west). Its president Rajendra Rai said: “It is a great initiative because the bus will go to almost every districts in the State and women in rural areas are in dire need of it.”
