An evening of rib-tickling comedy

Supportive Audience

The ‘May-hem’ edition of ‘Huckleberry Comedy Nights’ was hosted recently by comedian Vamsidhar Bhogaraju, featuring Sanjay Manaktala and Kanan Gill.

Despite being a weekday, the comedians performed their sets to a packed house. While Kanan talked about being Punjabi, moving to South India and the stupidity of sun signs, Sanjay, an American who has been in India for the last three years, spoke about Indian stereotypes and working in IT. On the other end of the spectrum, Vamsi’s set included jokes on topics like lemon rice and lingerie among other things.

“It was a lot of fun – it was a very supportive audience who pretty much laughed at everything. The place was packed with all kinds of people – from elderly Punjabi ladies to couples. There was also a lot of interaction because the audience was really giving it back to us,” shares Sanjay. His set, in his words, “ranged from IT scandals to how Indian mothers are on Mother’s Day to everything in between’.

“The comedy show was rib-tickling. All three comedians were in their element and brought the house down with their wit,” says Neha, an audience member, adding, “Hats off to ‘Huckleberry’ for organising such a splendid show. I will definitely be back for more!”

Rajiv, who was also in the crowd, notes, “We had a fantastic evening. It is heartening to see stand up-comedy grow in India. It’s an ideal platform for comedians to showcase their talents.” As an afterthought, he adds, “the food and wine was, as always,
wonderful.”
