Pushparaj, 26, working with Accenture, was found hanging at his neighbour’s house in Garudacharpalya on Thursday.

A native of Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, he was residing in a rented room along with two friends on the second floor at RHB Colony, Garudacharpalya.

Pushparaj had borrowed Rs 70,000 from his brother-in-law, Anbazhagan, four months ago. According to Anbazhagan, Pushparaj had not disclosed why he wanted the money.

Velayudham, who was staying in another rented portion on the first floor, said when one of his friends on a visit to the City wanted to stay in his room, since he (Velayudham) was visiting his native village in Tamil Nadu, he had asked him to collect the key from Pushparaj on the second floor. However, the friend called back stating Pushparaj was not at home but a light was switched on in Velayudham’s room that was locked.

On return, Velayudham learnt from Pushparaj’s roommates that they had last seen him on Tuesday night. Growing suspicious Velayudham broke open the door of his room to find Pushparaj hanging from the ceiling fan.

Mahadevapura police retrieved the body and shifted it to Bowring Hospital, where autopsy was conducted.

Pushparaj’s elder brother Shaktivel said it had been almost nine months since Pushparaj had visited them. He had informed them that the company was about to send him abroad and he was busy with work.

“For the last one month, he had almost stopped accepting calls. It has been at least a month since we spoke to him. We are clueless as to what was troubling him and why he took the extreme step. He had never shared with the family any of his problems,” Shaktivel said.
