Thick kajal, rings and bracelets on her fingers and hands, a dress which has heavy work on it, long hair  falling down elegantly on her shoulders and shining lipstick would be the perfect description of Shahnaz Husain.

Shahnaz Husain is a pioneer and the queen of herbal beauty care, who has achieved unprecedented international acclaim for her practical application of ayurveda. Her mantra to have beautiful skin, hair and also to look good is to have a good diet which includes a lot of greens. She suggests one to exercise well, sleep on time, do some yoga and avoid alcohol.

Her tip to the youth is to be natural, avoid the usage of chemicals and not to eat junk. “If you eat junk then you will look like junk.” For Shahnaz, Bangalore is like a home away from home. It has always held a special place in her heart.

She has been visiting the place ever since her grandfather owned a farm near Whitefield. “I love Bangalore a lot, it is very beautiful. The trees and the weather are very charming.” When asked about what made her choose this field, she says, “I had always wanted to do something different. I wanted to deal with natural products and not something which has chemicals in it. Once in London, a baby died because the kajal used for the child’s eye had a lot of lead content. That moved me a lot and I took to dealing with natural products like sandalwood, ‘badam’ and ‘kesar’.” According to Shahnaz, a woman needs three necessary qualities to be beautiful.

“Beauty power, brain power and finally, spiritual power. By having these qualities she can bring a difference in other people’s lives.” Shahnaz is very particular about her diet as she believes what one eats is reflected on one’s face and hair.  Bran, milk and a fruit are her menu for breakfast, while lunch and dinner should be nothing more than a bowl of raw salad, some grilled vegetables, soup, a bowl of dal and some grated carrot and cucumber. “I avoid non-vegetarian food. I consume greens mostly and anybody who wants to live healthy and look beautiful should follow a green diet.”
