Heavy showers were experienced in Richmond Town, Corporation, K R Market, Shantinagar, Seshadripuram, Majestic and surrounding areas of the City on Monday.

The City recorded around 3.6 mm of rainfall with maximum temperature of 27.0 degrees Celsius. HAL Airport received 0.1 mm of rain. Moderate rain will continue till June 7 with temperatures hovering between 18 degree Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius, the weatherman predicted. The Southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Rayalseema, Tamil Nadu, Southwest Bay and some more parts of Central Bay of Bengal, the weatherman added.

In a minor incident, a tree branch fell on the road, affecting traffic for a few hours on Monday night. “At around 9 pm, a tree trunk collapsed near K R Circle, while no one was injured in the incident. We had to deviate vehicles to Cubbon Park, in order to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic,” a Cubbon Park traffic police official said. Later, BBMP workers reached the spot and cleared the road of debris and traffic movement resumed. Commissioner M Lakshminarayana convened a meeting with all officials from the BBMP departments on Monday to discuss rain relief measures.

He directed officials to involve volunteers to minimise damage caused due to rain. He also asked them to prepare a list of volunteers and update it on a regular basis.
During the meeting, the other government agencies such as Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited, Bangalore Development Authority, Bangalore Water Supply & Sewerage Board, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation among others were entrusted with the responsibility to avoid rain related accidents. The Palike will send a letter to them seeking their cooperation.

Due to rains, there are a number of complaints related to overflowing of water from open drains and storm water drains, he said.

BBMP officials should focus and give top priority to restoring them back in good condition, he said. The BBMP control room numbers will be made effective by getting adequate staff and facilities for public convenience. BBMP officials were told to provide control room numbers to Bescom, BWSSB, BDA, Justdial and police control room.
