Former minister B T Lalitha Nayak’s younger sister was killed in a freak accident in Peenya traffic police station limits on Sunday afternoon.

The victim, 52-year-old B T Kumuda Nayak, a resident of Chitradurga, was actively associated with Nehru Yuva Kendra.

Around 3 pm, when Kumuda was riding pillion with her son Prithviraj on his motorcycle on the Dasarahalli 8th mile stretch, her ‘dupatta’ got caught in the rear wheel of the bike and she was thrown off the vehicle. She suffered serious head injuries after her head rammed the road. Though she was rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors there declared her brought dead, the police said.

“Kumuda was my younger sister and she was married to Ramananda Nayak, a bank manager in Chitradurga. She was in-charge coordinator of the Davangere chapter of Nehru Yuva Kendra. She is survived by her husband, two sons and a daughter,” Lalitha Nayak told Deccan Herald.

Kumuda had come to the City on Saturday. All her children live in HMT Colony in Nagasandra. She frequented Bangalore for official work and also to meet her children. Prithviraj escaped unhurt in the accident, the former minister said.
