A 34-year-old meter reader with Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) allegedly plunged to his death from the first-floor of a drug de-addiction centre in Kengeri here on Sunday night, hours before he was to be discharged, police said.

Thirumalesh (34), a resident of Shirke Apartment, Kengeri, slumped when Bhaskar, a staffer, was opening the door of his room. Bhaskar and another staffer, Shankar, had taken Thirumalesh to a nearby hospital for treatment when he complained of acute abdominal pain. He was later brought back. While Shankar went out to buy medicine, Bhaskar accompanied Thirumalesh to his room.

The deceased sustained grievous head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, police added. A native of Malavalli in Mandya district, Thirumalesh was living with his wife and children in the City. A contract employee with Bescom, he was admitted to Jeevan Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre two months ago and was to be discharged on Monday.

It is said that he was not willing to return home but it is not known why. Bhaskar and Shankar were arrested by the police for causing death due to negligence under Section 304 A of the IPC.
