MLAs to be charged with beating cop

Last Updated 12 June 2013, 18:13 IST

Cops will charg MLAs Ram Kadam of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Kshitij Thakur of the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi on or before June 30 for their involvement in the Vidhan Bhavan cop assault case, wherein the duo, along with others, allegedly beat up assistant police inspector Sachin Suryavanshi.

Informing the Bombay High Court of this development, Advocate General Darius Khambata told Justices P V Haridas and Mridula Bhatkar: “The CCTV footage from the corridors of Vidhan Bhavan of the day of the incident was received by Crime Branch on May 31.

However, as the footage was quite hazy and lacked clarity, it was sent to a forensic laboratory. Once the footage is clear, other assailants, if any, and witnesses can be identified and the investigations can proceed.”

The advocate general also told the court that the suspension order against Suryavanshi was before a revision committee, which is likely to announce its decision in two weeks.
