Selling beedis under fake label lands gang in jail

Jalahalli police have busted a ring involved in selling locally manufactured beedis under the brandname of Preeti Beedi of Mangalore.

The arrested have been identified as Allah Baksh (alias Babu), 27, J Eshwar Rao, 37, and Muneer Ahmed, 56, all residents of the City. Police told reporters that they have recovered beedis worth Rs eight lakh and bundles of fake labels.

Police said that the two of the primary suspects, Syed Basha and Narasimha Rao (alias Narasimharaju), are absconding.

Investigations showed that Basha and Rao printed fake labels in Tamil Nadu.
A police case has been registered at Jalahalli station.

Man killed in accident

A 50-year-old man, who worked for a private water tanker company, was killed when his water tanker rammed a road median at ITPL. The deceased has been identified as Manohar, a resident of Whitefield.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 4.30 am, when the fully loaded tanker drove into the median. The tanker tipped over and fell on the other side of the road. Manohar, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, fell out of the window and was crushed to death. The driver escaped with minor injuries. He abandoned the the vehicle.

Police righted the tanker using a crane and retrieved Manohar’s body.
