Hosting or Acting
Last Updated 17 June 2013, 18:34 IST

He might be a fitness freak but when it comes to eating, he is a complete “foodie.” Formally known more for his television acting and an interminable list of advertisements, Hussain Kuwajerwala, breezed through the city to celebrate the third anniversary bash of Josh mobiles recently.

For more than a decade he has been a familiar face – either acting in telly serials or hosting television shows. His passion for ads and anchoring has made him travel around the country several times.

In town to do what he is best at, Hussain played emcee for Josh, along with television actress Roshni Chopra. Metrolife caught up with the actor who has made the transition from television to cinema rather comfortably.

Hussain marked his bollywood debut with Shree, a suspense thriller directed by Rajesh Bachchani. Though the film failed to leave an impression, Hussain feels that, “It was a good movie. It got good reviews and the performances were appreciated.” But not all good reviews and great performances assure box-office success.

What do you prefer given a choice between hosting or acting? “I love acting more than anchoring.” This is despite the fact that the actor is seen more often on television, mostly as an anchor be it – Indian Idol or Khulja Sim Sim.

Hussain has also a part of the first Bollywood musical, Zangoora – the Gypsy Prince where he plays the lead opposite Gauhar Khan and Kashmira Irani and a show which has recently completed a 1000 shows.

Ask the foodie, which is his favourite dish/food and he comes up with a surprise. “I love sugarcane! It’s made for food lovers.”  Now we know where the sweetness comes from.
