Special wing to manage residential schools, hostels

Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya has said that there is a proposal to set up an exclusive wing to manage residential schools and hostels run by the social welfare department.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore on Saturday, the minister said there are 338 residential schools and 1,966 hostels under the purview of the department. A separate wing for managing the same would help in better maintenance.

There is a provision to accommodate 2.30 lakh students in the hostels. But there are only 1.93 lakh students now.

A helpline would be established to receive grievances and complaints faced by the hostelites, the minister said.
