The High Court has levied a cost of Rs 10,000 on advocate Roddaveera Shetty in a petition seeking to set up a bench of the Supreme Court in Karnataka.

Shetty, a Gulbarga-based advocate and party in person, had moved the court seeking directions to set up an apex court bench in the State. However, when the bench found out during hearing that the petitioner had already written to the President of India and the Prime Minister in this connection just a couple of days ago and had approached the court without waiting for the response, it directed him to withdraw the petition. When Shetty refused and insisted that an order be passed, the bench comprising Justices K L Manjunath and L Narayanaswamy dismissed the petition, levying a cost of
Rs 10,000 on the lawyer.
