Unable to bear the harassment of two neighbourhood men Krishna and Kumar, who were allegedly making castigating remarks on her character, a teenaged girl committed suicide by hanging herself in Ashokapuram police limits on Wednesday.

Lavanya (19) daughter of Bangari and Meenakshi, residents of Ambedkar Colony,Ashokapuram is the deceased.

Black magic

According to Bangari what triggered the trouble was his wife’s attempt to ward off the evil by hurling sacred white ash and vermillion given by a black magician in front of the houses of Krishna and Kumar a few months ago.

Later, the matter was brought to the notice of local leaders who convened a panchayat to settle the matter. The panchayat decided to fine the couple and asked them to pay Rs 50,000 to Krishna and Kumar. But the girl’s parents had conceded to pay only Rs 20,000, which was not agreeable to Krishna and Kumar. The dispute had ended inconclusive.

Since then, the two began to harass Lavanya by making remarks on her character, said Bangari. On May 06, Lavanya had decided to end her life and had also written a suicide note addressing her brother Ganesh, blaming Krishna and Kumar for robbing her peace.

On Wednesday afternoon, she took the extreme step by hanging herself when she was alone at her house. Based on the old suicide note, Krishna and Kumar have been booked under section 306 of IPC.
