Those students who were left disappointed with the first cut–off had ample reason to rejoice with the second cut-off list. With the second list pulling down the percentages slightly, students, who were forced to opt for a course and college of not their choice in the first round, got an opportunity again to stick to their preference. It was for this reason that a lot many students thronged North and South campuses to withdraw their certificates from one college and seek admission in another.

Akash Bhatt was one among them. He left History (Hons) from Hindu College to take admission in Economics (Hons) Ramjas College. “My inclination was always towards Economics but I couldn’t get admission in any of the top colleges. So, In order to confirm a seat in a good college, I opted for History in Hindu. Since, Ramjas reduced the cut-off for Eco by 0.5 percent in the second cut-off, I found no reason to miss an opportunity of studying the subject of my choice.” However, Akash also shares that he regrets leaving Hindu but for him course is the priority.

Similarly, Alan B Mathew, who took admission in Political Science (Hons) in Kirori Mal College, withdrew his certificates to enrol for Economics (Hons) in Bhagat Singh College! “I don’t think college matters a lot. The curriculum is same in all colleges so a course which I am fond off and one that assures me good future prospects is important to me,” says Alan.

Meanwhile, for many students, admission in top colleges remained the main concern. Irrespective of their liking for a particular subject, these students placed college over course. Abdul Hasib, simply switched over from Political Science (Hons) from Zakir Hussain College to Sociology (Hons) in Hindu College. “I desperately wanted to be part of Hindu.
Though I am not getting hostel facility within the college, I am ready to spend for private accommodation just because of the college,” says Abdul, who has come all the way from Kerala.

Interestingly, among the North Campus Colleges, Kirori Mal has closed admission in the general category for courses like History, Geography, Political Science, Urdu, Statistics, Botany and Zoology. Similar is the case with Hindu and Miranda House. On the other hand, Hansraj College had a few seats left in almost all the courses.

“As there has been a dip of 0.75 to one per cent in Hansraj College, I will now take admission in Physics (Hons),” says Priyank Khattar, who has already submitted his certificates and paid fees for Kirori Mal College on the basis of first cut-off.

Similar was the case with Mansi Kumar who was seen running from here to there in Kirori Mal College to get back her certificates and submit the same in Sri Venkateswara College for Zoology (Hons).

Meanwhile, Niharika Sachdeva did not compromise with the subject of her choice and waited for the second cut-off. “I haven’t applied anywhere after the first cut-off was out. I want to study Economics which I couldn’t get in Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC). So I waited for the second cut-off, according to which I can now apply for Miranda House,” says Niharika, with a gleam in her eyes.
