Arshad, Srishti leap to gold

Seven meet records fall by the wayside on action-packed second day

Seven meet records were broken on the penultimate day of the meet at the Sree Kanteerava stadium.

Arshad leapt to a distance of 7.45 metres to grab the gold, a good 11-centimetre clear off his nearest rival Akash B Rao in the under-20 boys’ section.
The National junior champion Arshad, bettered his own mark of 7.19 set this year at the State junior meet in SAI.
Srishti edged out team-mate Praneetha Pradeep by two centimetres for the gold in the girls’ under-14 long jump.
The 13-year-old Indo-German Sports Club girl found a distance of 5.32 to erase her own mark of 4.92.

Praneetha, who also lowered the meet record, took silver. Srishti trailed Praneetha until the last jump when the former edged ahead. Mysorean Mahendra Rao rewrote the 110M hurdles meet mark in the boys’ under-20 section. The old mark of 14.8 set by Manjunath Godi had stood for seven years.
Dinesh Kumar (boys’ U-20 10km walk), Surender Kumar (boys’ U-20 hammer throw), Bharat F Rathod (boys’ U-14 shot put), Anita Mahala (girls’ U-20 10km walk) were the others who bettered marks on Wednesday.
