Top cop for 'thermal camera' to heighten vigil at Palace

Security at Ambavilas Palace in the city may be upgraded with highly sophisticated camera that can keep an eye even in the dark.

Police Commissioner M A Saleem has asked a private firm engaged in installing additional Close Circuit TV Cameras at the Palace to explore the possibilities of thermal cameras.
Speaking to Deccan Herald after taking stock of the security arrangements at the most visited tourist spot to acclimatise himself with the place, the Commissioner said that thermal cameras could produce good quality images.

Besides, he has suggested for linking the existing CCTV cameras at the Palace to the surveillance centre set up on the premises of his office. 

Currently, 23 close circuit TV cameras are installed at the palace.

In addition to this work on installation of 118 cameras are on, taking the total number of cameras that would be installed to 141.

The work is expected to be completed in another two to three months. It is intended at capturing the remote areas too both inside and outside the palace, with visitors often trying to access prohibited areas too.

Additional 22 police personnel have also been deputed to the Palace on security duty, along with the existing 88 men. They are provided with self-loading rifles (SLR) and also pistols.
