Krishanappa alias Bar Krishnappa, who allegedly drove an SUV onto a pavement at Parappana Agrahara on Monday night killing four people, surrendered before a City court on Wednesday evening.

The former president of Bommanahalli City Municipal Council, Krishnappa had fled the accident spot abandoning the vehicle. The City traffic police had formed three special teams to track him down. Police sources say that a special team had even been to Salem in Tamil Nadu. However, Krishnappa appeared in the City on Wednesday evening and surrendered before the Bangalore Rural Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court on Nrupathunga Road at around 5 pm. The court remanded him in judicial custody till July 27. He was immediately shifted to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

B Dayananda, Additional Commissioner (Traffic & Security), told Deccan Herald that the police had sought the custody of the suspect and the case would come up for hearing on Thursday. He said as it was already late by 42 hours, further delay in the medical and forensic examination of the suspect would weaken the case. It would be difficult to establish he was drunk when the accident occurred, he added.

When asked whether Krishnappa has confessed to driving the vehicle when the accident occurred, he said the police had enough eye witnesses who had seen him drive the SUV and flee the scene after the accident. He said Krishnappa being a local resident, he was easily identifiable and the police were confident of establishing that it was indeed he who was driving the SUV and caused the accident.
