<p>With 2,000 cusecs of water being discharged into the river through the five crest gates of Yagachi reservoir in Belur which filled to the brim on Thursday, provided a visual treat.<br /><br /></p>.<p>With continuous rains lashing the region, the dam reached the maximum level well in advance, much to the cheer of the farmers. <br /><br />As the inflow was 2,000 cusecs on Thursday, the same amount of water was discharged into the river. <br /><br />The dam which has the capacity of 964.603 mts (3.6 tmc) had reached 964.45 mts (3.55 tmc).<br /><br />Yagachi reservoir executive engineer G T Venkatesh said that as Chikmagalur, Mudigere, Aldur and Gendehalli regions experienced heavy downpour, the inflow was expected to be more by Thursday evening. <br /><br />Hence, it was decided to discharge 2,000 cusecs into the river.<br /><br />About 36,000 acres of land in Belur, Alur, Hassan and Holenarasipur taluk are irrigated from Yagachi. Works on 100 km aqueduct if completed, would help in irrigating more lands, he said.<br /><br />The Yagachi reservoir has reached the maximum level every year since 2005, expect for 2012, when the State witnessed severe drought.<br /></p>
