Speeding SUV kills 2 pedestrians

A speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) mowed down two pedestrians near Chikkajala on Sunday night.

According to police, the accident occurred on the International Airport Road, between Vidyanagar and Chikkajala, at about 8.15 pm when the two were crossing the road. The identity of the victims is yet to be established.

Sources in the police said the two had crossed the road half-way and were near the median when the SUV rammed them. Both were killed instantly in the collision.

On being informed by the public about the accident, Chikkajala police rushed to the spot and arrested the driver of the vehicle. The SUV has been seized.

The victims — both men — are said to be aged about 40 and 50 years respectively. Police said initial investigations have identified the victims as workers in the nearby stone quarries.

Girl killed

A six-year-old girl returning home with her father was killed after she was struck by a car in old Madivala area. The dead has been identified as Mahadevi.

Police said Mahadevi suffered head injuries after a car rammed her. The driver of the car, Vijaykumar, rushed her to St John’s Hospital in his vehicle, where the girl succumbed to her injuries later in the night.

Hit by truck

Anil Ram, 47, a resident of 4th Main, Srinivasanagar died after his bike was hit by a concrete mixer truck on Mysore Road in Kengeri police limits. 

The accident took place at around 7.45 am when Ram, a candle supplier, was returning home on his bike. According to police, the victim was beheaded in the collision.

“The truck driver abandoned the vehicle on the spot and fled,” police added.
