Reckless driving claims five lives on City roads

Speeding vehicles and reckless driving claimed five lives in separate accidents in the City on Monday.

Two friends riding a bike were crushed under the wheels of a lorry on Magadi Road. Sagar R (23) and Lakshminarayana Rao (27), both residents of Kebbehalla, were travelling on Kebbehalla Main Road when a speeding lorry hit their bike from behind.
They were thrown from their vehicle and came under the wheels of the lorry, police said.

The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot immediately after the accident. Kamakshipalya traffic police have registered a case. They have seized the vehicle.

According to police, Sagar was an auto driver, while Lakshminarayana Rao worked as a welder. Both men were also neighbours.

Rider killed

In another accident, Kanchana A Kukkarjea (50), a resident of KG Road was killed after a private bus rammed her two-wheeler on Race Course Road.
The accident occurred at around 6:40 pm near Maurya Hotel when Kukkarjea Road, was returning home.

She was flung several feet and died after suffering severe injuries.
The bus driver abandoned his vehicle and fled, police said.

Pedestrian mowed down

An unidentified middle-aged man was mowed down by a speeding BMTC bus near Rajeshwari Theatre on Old Airport Road. 

The man was attempting to cross the road when the speeding BMTC Volvo bus knocked him down. Although he was immediately rushed to a private hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.

Airport traffic police have registered a case.

Engineer dies

A civil engineer, severely injured in an accident on Nagarabhavi Ring Road on Saturday night, died on Monday morning.

The victim, Dinesh, 46, was a resident of Nagarabhavi 9th Block. He was working with a construction firm nearby. On Saturday night, he was walking back home after shopping at a corner store when he was hit by a speeding bike. He was rushed to BGS Hospital with severe injuries where he died on Monday morning.

Sateesh, the biker who caused the accident, also suffered serious injuries and is being treated at a private hospital. Police sources said he was out of danger. Kamakshipalya traffic police have registered a case.
