A man who had acted in a film and a few TV serials was killed when he rammed his BMW bike into a roadside tree at Malleswaram in the early hours of Wednesday.

The victim, Anil Kumar, 32, a resident of BEL Layout, had joined his father in his real estate business after a failed career in films and television.

He had a craze for bikes and had bought the BMW bike in March for a whopping Rs 28 lakh. According to police, overspeeding led to the accident on the connecting road between Margosa Road and 8th Main Malleswaram, in front of Navarathna Apartments.
A senior police official told Deccan Herald that Kumar was riding the vehicle over 100 km per hour when the accident occurred. He rammed the vehicle into the footpath and then into a roadside tree.

Though he was wearing a helmet that came with the bike, he sustained a severe head injury. The impact of the collision was so severe the helmet was shattered into three pieces.

He was immediately taken to Columbia Asia Hospital, where he died hours later.

Failed actor

Kumar was the lead actor in the Kannada film ‘Shivani’ released in 2007. Produced by N L Giridhar, elder brother of former MLA, N L Narendra Babu, the film had bombed at the box office. Later, he switched over to television, but failed to make an impact there too. Of late, he was helping his father Balaram in his real estate business.

On Tuesday, Balaram was in KR Puram and ran out of money in his business dealing. He called up home and asked his son to send the driver with the money.

As the driver was not at home, Kumar himself took the money and went to KR Puram in his BMW bike.

“We finished the business and were on our way back. He was on his bike and I was following him in my car. But my driver couldn’t keep pace with him and he was way beyond us. I reached the spot minutes after the accident. By then someone had rushed him to the hospital. He couldn’t be saved as he had suffered a severe head injury,” a sobbing Balaram recounted.

Anil Kumar had married Kannika last year and the couple did not have any children.
