BBMP to hasten land acquisition for road widening

Last Updated 07 October 2013, 20:59 IST

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which has taken up widening of Bannerghatta Road and Goods Shed Road, on a priority basis, has hastened land acquisition process for the purpose. Altogether 405 properties have been identified for acquisition on Bannerghatta Road.

BBMP’s standing committee for major works, will hold a meeting in Bannerghatta area on October 19, in which district in charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Bangalore South MLA M Krishnappa, Bommanahalli MLA Satish Reddy, Mayor Sathyanarayana, and local corporators are expected to take part.

The purpose is to build a consensus with BBMP insisting people to part with their property accepting transferable developmental rights (TDR).

However, people are not ready to accept TDR. Srinivas Murthy, who will lose his plot, said “There is no point in accepting TDR when we do not know what it is and how it works. We want monetary compensation or alternate site.”

Palike sources indicated that they would approach the State government for funds for widening Bannerghatta Road. In addition, they will scout for financing agencies which can lend money for the project.

BBMP had earlier planned to widen seven important roads in City but due to scarcity of funds, it will restrict to Bannerghatta Road for the moment. The next project could be Goods Shed Road, sources said.
