Pakistan passport holder pop-singer Adnan Sami has been asked by the Mumbai Police on Tuesday to give reasons for overstaying in India, despite the expiry of visa 10 days ago.

Officers said that the singer has been given a week’s notice to furnish explanations behind transgressing the visa expiry date and also provide details of visa renewal process which he has claimed to have been initiated in Delhi.

In a statement here tonight, the musician said: “As per standard rules, I had made an application for extension of my visa to the concerned department of the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi on September 14 as they are the only authority to issue all visa extensions. This is a standard procedure that is followed by all foreigners and I have been following it for the past 14 years. Hence this year is no different.”

The issue came to light during a hearing of a court case between Sami and his former wife Sabah Galadhari.
