Asian Games silver-medallist Manpreet Singh (91kg) sailed into the World Championships pre-quarterfinal after clinching a comprehensive victory over Seychelles’ Keddy Agnes in his opening bout here on Friday.

Manpreet, who got a bye in his first round, won 3-0, with the round-by-round break up reading an identical 30-27 in all three rounds.

The 28-year-old will now face world number one and Olympic bronze-medallist Teymur Mammadov of Azerbaijan, the top seed, in the round of 16 on Monday.

Manoj Kumar (64 kg) got the better of 2011 European champion Fatih Keles of Turkey to advance into the second round. Even though Manoj fought a see-saw battle against his Turkish opponent, he won 3-0.

His next opponent will be Canada’s Yves Ulysee, who defeated Juan Romero of Mexico.
