Hours after the visit of Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Pakistani troops resorted to heavy shelling along the border in the Jammu division on Tuesday night, killing one Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and injuring six others.

Sources said Pakistani Rangers, in one of the biggest ever ceasefire violations during the last few years, targeted nearly 50 BSF posts along the International Border in R S Pura, Ramgarh, Arnia, Pargwal, Akhnoor and Kanachak sectors, killing one BSF trooper and injuring three others.

The slain para-military trooper has been identified as M L Meena of Rajasthan. Three of the injured personnel are Ashok Kumarm, Surinder Kumar and Pradeep. The deceased and the injured personnel were posted at BSF’s Chenaz post in the Arnia sector. The BSF also retaliated. The exchange of firing continued between two sides throughout the night.

Reports said Pakistani troops also continued firing mortar shells at various places in the Mendhar and Bhimber Gali areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district throughout Tuesday night.

Ceasefire violations have been going on almost on daily basis since August 6, with a majority of exchanges taking place on the LoC in Poonch.

However, for the past several days, similar skirmishes are going on along the international border in Jammu region.
