A 17-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly gang-raped by three youths known to her in a car in south Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave area on Tuesday, said the police.

The victim, a Class XI student of a private school and a resident of Humayunpur village, left for an outing with her friend Rohit, 22, identified as one of the accused in the case, in a Hyundai Verna car on Tuesday evening. Two of Rohit’s friends, Tinku and Narender, joined them.

They took the victim to Kamal Cinema Hall parking lot and offered her a soft drink laced with sedatives. When the girl felt dizzy after consuming the drink, they took turns to rape her in the car. They dropped her outside her house around 8:30 pm after she regained consciousness, she alleged.  The victim did not utter a word to her parents about the incident, but when she was talking to one of her friends about it, her father overheard. On inquiring, her father came to know about the ordeal. He called the police and gave a complaint around 1 am on Wednesday.

A police team arrived at the house, recorded the victim’s statement and sent her to Safdarjung Hospital to be medically examined.

Police have registered a case of gang-rape and also applied various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, at the Safdarjung Enclave Police Station on the basis of the victim’s statement and medical report.

She told the police that all the accused, including her friend, are residents of Pillanji village.  The four-wheeler used in the crime has been impounded, and further investigations are underway.

“A team comprising senior police officers has been formed and pressed into service to nab the accused,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) B S Jaiswal.
