In a move to spread awareness and educate children about the importance of income tax, the Income Tax Department has planned to include schools in the city, as part of the Vigilance Awareness Week 2013.

According to officials in the department, last year too, students of one school in Bangalore visited the department and interacted with the officials. This year, the department officials are also planning to go to schools and talk to children. The list of the schools are still being finalised, officials said. The interaction is likely to happen this Friday. As part of the Awareness Week, the Department will also conduct essay competition to its employees.

The annual Vigilance Week, observed by the Central Vigilance  Commission, aims to inculcate integrity in government offices.  The programme was flagged off in the premises of the department here on Monday. The theme for this year's Vigilance Awareness Week is ‘Promoting Good Governance-Positive Contribution of Vigilance.’ The emphasis being on good governance, officials are encouraged by the vigilance commission to rope in all the stakeholders and organise seminars and discussions apart from debates, essay writing contests in order to bridge the gap between stakeholders. The department will be required to send a report on the activities conducted as part of the vigilance week, to the Central Vigilance Commission by December 15.
