Dakshina Kannada to have master quality control lab

PWD Superintending Engineer B S Balakrishna said that one QC Lab has been set up in Puttur, while the labs in Sullia, Belthangady and Bantwal will be ready in 4 days. Rest of the labs will be ready by December 5.

“Earlier concept of Quality Control was a narrow one. It used to Quality Checks were done after the works are completed. Now the monitoring will be done at every stage of the work, on day to day basis. This is how we intend to improve the quality,” he said.
He said that however the setting up of Master Lab will take some time because it costs Rs 1.5 crore, which needs to be approved yet. As far as roads are concerned, he said that department has received Rs 13.1 crore for pothole filling in Mangalore Circle (Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu district). Though the works were started, it could not be continued due to rainfall. However, the department intends to complete the pothole filling by January 15 if the weather is favourable.

Tulu Sammelana

Apart from this, a grant of Rs 17 crore has been sanctioned to surface the roads connecting Ujire to facilitate ‘Vishwa Tulu Sammelana-09’ to be held at Ujire on December 10.

Selected stretches of Kadur-Kanhangad road, Periyashanthi-Dharmasthala road, Gurvayankere-Naravi road, Belthangady-Mudabidri-Mulki road, Surathkal-Kabaka road, Mangalore-Athrady road, Uppinangady-Guruvayankere road and Mani-Ullal road will be developed using the funds, he said.
