What's in this winter?

Fashion predictions

Bangalore will always be known for its good weather throughout
the year.

But with the drop in temperature and increasing number of end-of-the-year events, it’s time to bring out the sweaters and stockings! Winter fashion is here to
stay and youngsters and designers share their fashion predictions for the upcoming season.

Designer Manoviraj Khosla predicts that light jackets for men and long dresses for women will be in vogue.

“Black will be the predominant colour. Since Bangalore doesn’t really have a winter, women won’t be bringing out their fur and leather. But we’ll see a lot of long dresses in solid colours. For men, Indianised jackets in maybe Jodhpuri style
will be in fashion. During the party season, we can expect more edgy jackets
in linen, wool and blended fabrics,” he says.

Prkriti Sethi, a professional, notes that the trends this year are starkly different from last year.

She elaborates, “Last year, it was all about long boy sweaters. The fashion statement this season has shifted to short well-fitted jackets with high-waist jeans and nice shoes. Winter and the charm of black is something that no colour can replace.”

Rukshar Mir, a model and final-year student of Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology, talks of her personal style.

“I will be wearing a lot of bright colours like yellow, blue, red and lemon green. It’s best to keep it really vibrant as these colours keep you in a good and energetic mood. I’m going to be wearing a lot of stoles, sweaters and skull caps,” she says, adding, “I feel people will wear a lot of loose pants, like dhoti pants, which are back in fashion.

Combining them with a nice shawl can give a beautiful and elegant Indian touch.”
The men folk are equally excited about the vast scope for winter fashion.

Unlike Rukshar, Aseem Patil, a professional, feels that the season will see a lot of dark colours.

“Winter calls for and is an amazing opportunity to wear dark colours even during the day as the heat they absorb is more than welcome. When I step out this winter, I’m probably going in for a combination of a comfortable collared T-shirt, a solid coloured sweater and
maroon or dark pastel chinos,” says Aseem.

According to Jeffery Ponnappa, a model, designs on woollen garments will be fashionable this winter.

“Cardigans with patterns and bold prints on sweaters are what are in this season,” he shares.

Lokesh, an expert in men’s wear, hopes that the double-breasted suits become
popular this winter.

“It’s back in fashion and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. But for some reason, people don’t seem to want to wear it. Textured, heavier fabrics can be interesting as they give a chance to move away from linens and cottons.
Corduroy jackets will be nice for daily wear,” says the designer.
