India's largest software services exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is planning to widen its hiring net in fiscal 2015 by reaching out to institutions that are accredited with the company but where it is unable to hire from.

The company has its digital hiring platform NextStep on which a student gets enrolled the day he joins one of the 450 accredited engineering colleges. On Campus Commune, the student can connect with peers and stay updated on TCS activities by creating his/her profile.

“By the time we am done with 350 colleges, the number of vacancies I need to fill are over,” TCS EVP & Global Head, Human Resources Ajoy Mukherjee told reporters.

“We are planning to use Campus Commune, a networking platform in NextStep,  in getting across the remaining 100 colleges through our platform so that students who do not get a chance to join TCS can take the selection examination.”

In October TCS had increased its hiring target from 45,000 to 50,000 for FY 2014.

Mukherjee had said that for the campus offers given out for FY '14, the acceptance ratio has also gone up from 65-70 per cent to 72-74 per cent. “Next fiscal also we are expecting similar figures," he had added.

TCS at present has around 2,85,250 people on their rolls. “Off campus we will have to decide, based on business requirements..If we find that we need more, that is the time when we will hire.

This year, may be we will do something earlier as generally we go for off campus in the month of October-November which will be an add-on to the campus hirings,” Mukherjee explained, adding, “Though we have not done it in the last 3-4 years, this year gain we might go for it. Talent availability is there, we just need to assess our requirements.”
