Speeding car rams into bike, 2 critically injured

Cong leader's son was at the wheel in inebriated state

Two persons were critically injured after a speeding car with a red beacon driven by son of a local Congress leader hit their motorcycle on Wednesday night in west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar.

The incident occurred when Mohammed Saif, son of Congress leader Mohammed Shakeel Saif, was driving the Skoda along with his friend, Amit, in a drunken condition.
The speeding Skoda first hit a roadside kiosk, rammed into a bike, then collided with an electricity pole and came to a halt.

“Two people identified as Krishan Kumar Pandey, 40, and Shiv Kumar, 25 who were on the bike, got dragged for some metres on the road after being hit,” said a police officer.
Police said that following the accident, several people rushed the spot and caught the accused who were in the vehicle. Saif and Amit were thrashed by the group of about six onlookers. Meanwhile, police were informed and the injured were rushed to the nearby Sanjay Gandhi Hospital from where, Shiv was referred to the Safdarjung Hospital.
The condition of both the accused is stated to be critical.

Police said the driver Saif and his friend, Amit have been arrested and booked under relevant section of Indian Penal Code.

A cross FIR has been registered against the onlookers who thrashed the two accused after the accident.

Police said that Pandey works at a construction site in South Delhi and lives along with his family in Nihal Vihar. He was on his way home from his office in Dwarka along with his friend when he met with the accident.

The officer said that they have recovered some empty bottles of beer in addition to snacks which indicates that both the accused had consumed alcohol before driving. Their samples have been sent for examination.

The vehicle which had a red beacon, was found registered under the name of Rajiv. A separate case was registered for illegally using the beacon.

“The car has been seized. Further investigations are underway,” said the officer.
