The MS Ramaiah Institute of Management held its annual inter-collegiate all-India management fest titled ‘Perceptions 2013’ recently. The two-day fest had the theme – ‘Toons to Tycoons’ and saw the participation of 19 reputed colleges, including Dayananda Sagar Business School, Indus Business Academy, St Hopkins College, T John College, Reva College of Science and Management, National School of Business, CMS — Centre for Business Studies, Presidency College, IBMR, Christ University and several others.

Being the 14th edition of the fest, there was a lot on the cards for participants. The usual management events like ‘Best Manager’, ‘Business Quiz’, ‘Business Plan’, ‘Mad Ads’, ‘Finance’, ‘HR’,
‘Marketing’ and ‘Operations’ were held.

In various rounds, students showed their skills off and battled it out like how they would in the business world. Other than these, there was a lot of variety in terms of cultural events too, including a thematic fashion show, a dance competition and even a treasure hunt to keep things interesting.

Speaking of the challenges faced in putting the fest together, Sharathchandra, the event-coordinator, said, “Things went on smoothly though they did get tough at times. From getting vendors to the right judges for such a big event was challenging but a learning experience. The biggest challenge for us was to select the best candidates for each of the events. Once that was done, everybody proceeded to do their jobs well. The fact that we got the right people in the beginning made everything a lot easier for us. Sponsorship was also a problem but we managed to the best of our abilities.”

About the response from the participants, he added, “We’ve got a very positive feedback from the colleges. They were happy with the hospitality and found the competition to be good and fair. They even said that it brought out different skills. The maximum participation was for the treasure hunt, in which 28 teams took part.”

“Both the time management and planning were good. It was a wonderful experience,” said Nishant and Navid of Adarsh Institute of Management and Information Technology, who participated in the ‘Business Plan’ event.

Karthik, Mahesh Kumar and Prashant, two students of IBMR who won the popular treasure hunt, said, “To win the game, it is important to be in the game. The event was fun and well-organised and it feels good to have come first!”

Indus Business Academy took home the ‘Best College’ prize.
