CBI urges SC to dismiss Lalu's bail plea

Last Updated 12 December 2013, 19:31 IST

The CBI has urged the Supreme Court to dismiss RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s plea to release him on bail in the fodder scam case saying that no new fact or condition has emerged since his conviction, entitling him enlargement in the matter relating to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.07 crore from the treasury.

In an affidavit, the probe agency submitted that Prasad’s petition was “bereft of merit and liable to be rejected.”

The former Bihar chief minister challenged a Jharkhand High Court order of October 31, rejecting his bail application. He was sentenced to a five-year jail term on October 3.
Prasad, who lost his membership of Parliament after his conviction, submitted that only his bail plea was dismissed, among 44 convicts.
